Kindle DX: Amazon’s Attempt to Revolutionize Reading
by Deepti Paul
Amazon consider themselves experts in what people buy, and apparently books are no longer on top of the list. I guess someone is reading this, so it can’t be all that bad. And that’s Amazon’s point. People like to read, just not the inconvenience of it. So they’re trying to bring back the love of books and all things reading.
Thus, they offer you the Kindle DX.
It’s a larger version of their original reading device, designed to have less strain on the eye. Not only can you read one of Oprah’s favorites, you can have your favorite newspaper delivered to you every day on your Kindle. But I believe Amazon is not only after the average commuter, but college students as well. Amazon offers the ability to download heavy textbooks into their magazine thin device. If it really lowers prices, students may really be interested in the device.
With the Kindle DX you even can annotate your eTextbook, as there is no reselling issue like with print textbooks. With the eTextbook, you can afford to buy and keep your textbook for reference. Besides, selling real textbooks back to the bookstore is a rip-off and students know it. It’s just easier sell your 50lb. textbook for $30 to a bookstore than lug it around trying to sell it on your own for the price you actually paid.
At the $489 starting price though, there may be some skepticism regarding affordability, but this is the same college student who owns an iphone and laptop and probably some gaming device. If they want it, they’ll get it.

I think it’s still too expensive at the moment but the price will come down and it could really catch on

i agree and they need to add some virtual features, like highlighting and note taking for student text.
