What's Down with the Brown?

Welcome to the latest edition of the Brownbag Magazine. In the words of Robert Browning, the lark is on the wing, the snail is on the thorn, and baseball is back in the park (well ok, he didn't know much about baseball). Anyway, time to put those hats and scarves away for another year: Spring is here. The response to our new look, which debuted in February, has been overwhelmingly positive, and we promise to keep our standards just as high in the future. This issue, we are sure there is something to interest you, from a Sudha Snack to a WHCAP artist original. But first catch up on all the latest from Brownscape....

Made in India?

  • We are happy to announce that Made in India? was screened to employees of the Department of Homeless Services as part of Women’s History Month. BP is also working with organizations like KIPNA , various CUNY colleges, and AARI to have another theatre screening. Further showings are in the works including screenings on Queens Public TV in April, with May dates to follow:

    • Tuesday April 24 Channel 57 @ 10PM
    • Monday April 30 Ch 34 @ 2:30PM
  • Check out the Brownscape Channel on YouTube when you’re supposed to be working. We add new videos every month! Thanks for the support for the MII trailer, which is already past 3,000 hits on YouTube! We’ve received so much great feedback that we had to start a Mail Bag!

  • Film director Deepti Paul discusses the film and more in the latest edition of the Impress Magazine in an article called “Capturing a Culture Clash on Film”.
  • If you didn’t catch Deepti’s appearance on the MTV Desi talk show “Mouthpiece”, you can still see clips and promos here. (Only on PCs)

  • We are continuing to look for places to screen MII, would you like to host a screening of MII? Please contact us!

New Website

  • BP has revamped its website, so take a look now.

  • If you like our website why not hire us to do yours? Brownscape now offers website design for artists and entrepreneurs alike with different packages for all budgets. WHCAP is a current client.
  • BP is proud to announce their new online gallery. It will feature the work of artists in a variety of mediums. If you are an artist interested in exhibiting and featuring your work on our online gallery please contact Project Director Mery Diaz

Photo Contest

  • Thanks to everyone who submitted entries to our Spring photo contest. The winning pic comes from Joseph O’Rawe and is featured on our front page. Joe took his camera to MSG and snapped the brown bag at a Knicks basketball game. Well, we did say the theme was “spring”…..

Browntown Update

  • We will be shooting the trailer for Browntown in May to raise funds for the production. Auditions were held and the lead roles will be selected soon! Stay tuned…

  • Meanwhile, chief writer Alex Heyward is working at a feverish pace to finish the script of the feature, in time for a June deadline for the Light House screenplay competition.
