Chew on This:
Dating: A Fairy Tale

By Rani Thomas

Dating is not as dreamy as it used to be. Over and over I keep hearing the same story from young women that I come across. Once upon a time there were little girls who read fairy tales, wishing that a handsome prince would come riding on a white horse. He would climb up to her window in his fashionable tights, profess his love to her and carry her away to a beautiful castle. Today, however, the prince would have trouble finding a place to park that horse, and could expect a police car to roll up if he ever pulled such a stunt.

Today’s prince charming would most likely be a well-educated man in a pinstriped suit, driving up in a Jaguar with flowers in hand. He will ring the bell and wine and dine his princess for a sweet, memorable night. When the clock strikes midnight, this Cinderella will not be going home. She will go barefoot if she had to, just to keep these precious moments with the man of her dreams alive.

He will continue to pursue her daily. After a week, when she allows herself to think that he IS IT, she will jump into bed with him for a night of intense passion. The next day, however, to her dismay, he will give her the dreaded news she has heard for the hundredth time – he is not ready for a relationship. Panic sets in. Visions of the carriage turning into a pumpkin and Snow White eating the poisonous apple creep into her mind.  How could it be? What happened to that fairy tale that every girl with a dream gets to live out?

It is called finding true love in the real world.  Through hurt, tears, and fears.  To live happily ever after.
